My friend, Hugh, has always been fat, but things got so bad recently that he decided to go on a diet. He began his diet a week ago. First of all, he wrote out a long list of all the foods which were list included most of the things Hugh loves: butter, potatoes,rice, beer, milk, chocolate, and sweets. Yesterday I paid him a visit.I rang the bell and was not surprised to see that Hugh was still as fat as ever. He led me into his room and hurriedly hid a large parcel under his desk. It was obvious that he was very embarrassed. When I asked him what he was doing, he smiled guiltily and then put the parcel on the desk. He explained that his diet was so strict that he had to reward himself occasionally. Then he showed me the contents of the parcel. It contained five large bars of chocolate and three bags of sweets!

write out:开出，写出
foods:food为不可数名词，其复数形式表示各种各样的食物；其他同样用法：fruits(各种各样的水果)；fishes（各种各样的鱼）
forbid sb to do sth : 禁止某人做某事

pay a visit:拜访
pay sb. a visit(pay a visit to sb.)

it：形式/先行主语，代替后面that引导的从句
be embarrassed:尴尬的（主语为人；修饰事物则用现在分词形式）

=>He explained that his diet was so strict that he had to reward himself occasionally.
动词带双宾语的结构
=>Yesterday I paid him a visit. (= a visit to him)
拜访某人但更习惯用pay sb a visit
=>Then he showed me the contents of the parcel.(=... showed the contents of the parcel to me)
不可数名词
=>The list included most of the things Hugh loves: butter, potatoes,rice, beer, milk, chocolate, and sweets.
（不可数名词：butter, rice, beer, milk, chocolate）
=>It contained five large bars of chocolate and three bags of sweets!
（表示不可数名词的数量时的表示）
