"布朗尼加分"口语课堂:"忍"～"忍无可忍"

的网友们大家好。汉语里关于“忍”的成语或习语有不少。百忍成真，忍一时风平浪静，等等。佛教也将“忍”推崇为“众妙之门”。不过，借用周星驰的电影台词来说，人总会碰到“忍无可忍；无须再忍”的时候。

在之前的学习中，我们接触过the last straw“压倒骆驼的最后一根稻草”的用法。它表示即便事情虽小，但加在许多麻烦事情上，最终会让人不堪忍受。今天我们再来看另外两个习语。它们分别表示“强忍”和“忍无可忍”。

Bite the bullet 咬紧牙关；强忍痛苦

字面意思为“咬住子弹”，这难度有多大大家可想而知。来看两个例子。

A: I’ve decided not to quit the GRE exam.

我已经决定继续参加GRE考试了。

B: But the exam is on the way. Do you have enough time to get prepared?

但是马上就到考试时间了。你有足够的时间准备吗？

A: I know. But taking everything into consideration, I decided to bite the bullet.

我知道。但对所有因素做了全面考虑之后，我决定背水一战，咬牙坚持住。

我们再来看一个例子：

The president asked the board to bite the bullet to the crisis 见补充. 董事长让董事会咬紧牙关顶住这场危机。

有些时候，忍无可忍的时候可以反击，有时候却可能是忍到绝望，忍到不得不放弃了。

at the end of tether 实在没辙了

tether本身就表示“忍耐的极限”。在忍耐极限的尽头，也就是再也不可能继续忍受了。

比如，一个疲惫的妻子忙碌一天之后对丈夫说：

You put the children to bed; I’ve been with them all day and I’m nearly at the end of my tether. 你让孩子们上床睡觉吧。和他们待了一天，我几乎没什么耐心了。

They are at the end of their tether; another strain upon their business means bankruptcy for them. 他们已经到了山穷水尽的地步，他们的生意再经受一次挤压就会破产。

一个小小的“忍”字里有无穷深意，不过这要每个人自己体会和感悟了。好了，本期内容我们就到这里。
