Well, no, actually I had an unhappy experience swimming when I was a child. Actually, I nearly drowned when I had my first swimming lesson. So I’m terribly afraid of water, I can’t tackle the psychological problems and I haven’t made up my mind whether to learn again.

No, I hate swimming. The water in the swimming pool is dirty, full of bacteria. Well, there are many beaches in Hong Kong, especially in Hong Kong Island. I see many people bring their children to the beach to go swimming, build sandcastles or something like that. Well, although it’s filled with people all the time, especially Sundays,it still has great surroundings and an enjoyable atmosphere.

Frankly, the reason is quite obvious. Well, there are benefits for peoples’health, you know like, burning calories and stimulating circulation. Women perceive swimming as a good way to keep their figure and lose weight. One more thing, it’s probably the only sport that won’t make you feel sweaty.

To be honest, I don’t know how to swim but I can still have fun by taking part in some water sports, like playing water balls or other water based activities. In my view, I think swimming is regarded as a leisure activity, so it doesn’t make sense for it to become a must.

So, knowing how to swim is important, especially for children if they live near water – it could literally save their life if they fell into a river or something like that.

As for benefits, well, it’s great exercise, full cardiovascular benefits for your heart and it’s also low-impact exercise so people of any age can do it without risk of damaging their joints. And of course, it’s a great way to have fun at the beach with friends – or as we do – at the pool when we’re relaxing.
