第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)

第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

A

“Our aim is to take our art to the world and make people understand what it is to move.” said David Belle, the founder of Parkour (跑酷).

Do you love running? It is a good exercise, yet many people find it boring. But what if making your morning jog a creative one? Like jumping from walls and over gaps, and ground rolls? Just like the James Bond in the movie Casino Royale? Bond jumps down from a roof to a windowsill and then runs several blocks over obstacles on the way. It is just because of Bond's wonderful performances that the sport has become popular worldwide.

Yes, that's Parkour, an extreme street sport aimed at moving from one point to another as quickly as possible, getting over all the obstacles in the path using only the abilities of the human body. Parkour is considered as an extreme sport. As its participants dash around a city, they may jump over fences, run up walls and even move from rooftop to rooftop.

Parkour can be just as exciting and charming as it sounds, but its participants see Parkour much more than that.

Overcoming all the obstacles on the course and in life is part of the philosophy(理念) behind Parkour. This is the same as life. You must determine your destination, go straight, jump over all the barriers as if in Parkour and never fall back from them in your life, to reach the destination successfully. A Parkour lover said, “I love Parkour because its philosophy has become my life, my way to do everything. ”

Another philosophy we've learnt from Parkour is freedom. It can be done by anyone, at any time, anywhere in the world. It is a kind of expression of trust in yourself that you earn energy and confidence.

our has become popular throughout the world because of________.

A. its founder, David Belle

B. the film Casino Royale

C. its risks and tricks

D. the varieties of participants

答案与解析:B 细节理解题。根据第二段可知跑酷之所以风靡全球是受《皇家赌场》中主人公邦德精彩表演的影响。

underlined word “obstacles” in Paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to “________”.

A. streets B. objects

C. barriers D. roofs

答案与解析:C 词义猜测题。根据倒数第二段中的“jump over all the barriers as if in Parkour”可知画线词与C项“障碍”意思最接近。

its participants movie around a city, ________.

A. they can ask for help

B. they may choose to escape

C. they should run to extremes

D. they must learn to survive

答案与解析:C 推理判断题。根据第三段最后两句中的内容可推测他们应该跑到极限。

h of the following is the philosophy of Parkour?

A. Sports and extremes.

B. Excitement and popularity.

C. Dreams and success.

D. Determination and freedom.

答案与解析:D 推理判断题。结合倒数第二段的内容以及最后一段第一句可知跑酷的理念是决心和自由。

B

Cold weather has a great effect on how our minds and our bodies work. Maybe that is why there are so many expressions that use the word “cold”. For centuries, the body's blood has been linked closely with the emotions. People who show no human emotions or feelings, for example, are said to be cold-blooded. Cold-blooded people act in a merciless way. They may do brutal things to others, and not by accident. For example, a newspaper says the police are searching for a cold-blooded killer. The killer murdered someone, not in self-defense. He seemed to kill with no emotion.

Cold can affect other parts of the body, the feet, for example. Heavy socks can warm your feet,if your feet are really cold. But there is an expression—to get cold feet—that has nothing to do with cold or your feet. The expression means being afraid to do something you decided to do. For example, you agree to be president of an organization. But then you learn that all the other officers have resigned. All the work of the organization will be your responsibility. You are likely to get cold feet about being president when you understand the situation.

Cold can also affect your shoulder. You “give someone the cold shoulder” when you refuse to speak to him. You treat him in a distant, cold way. The expression probably comes from the physical act of turning your back towards someone, instead of speaking to him face-to-face. You may give a cold shoulder to a friend who has not kept a promise he made to you or to someone who has lied about you to others.

“A cold fish” is not a fish. It is a person. But it is a person who is unfriendly, unemotional and show no love or warmth. A cold fish does not offer much of himself to anyone.

“Out in the cold” is an expression often heard. It means not getting something that everybody else got. A person might say that everybody but him got a pay raise. He was left out in the cold. And it is not a pleasant place to be.

passage is intended to tell us that ________.

A. cold weather has a great effect on human bodies

B. many English expressions contain the word “cold”

C. cold is a word closely linked with human emotions

D. the word “cold” has many different meanings in English

答案与解析:B 主旨大意题。综合全文可知文章重点解释了很多含有cold的习语,故选B。A、C和D项都是片面的。

underlined word “brutal” in Paragraph 1 most probably means“________”.

A. impolite B. illegal

C. cruel D. extreme

答案与解析:C 词义猜测题。根据前文Cold-blooded people act in a merciless way可知brutal意为“残忍的,野蛮的”。所以答案选C。

can say Tom ________ if the teacher gives all the boys except him a pen as a prize.

A. is given the cold shoulder

B. is left out in the cold

C. has got cold feet

D. is murdered by a cold-blooded killer

答案与解析:B 推理判断题。根据文中所介绍的含有cold的几个短语以及文章最后一段可知be left out in the cold意为“被冷落;被排斥”。故选B。

can draw a conclusion from the passage that ________.

A. all the expressions containing the word “cold” have negative meanings

B. all the expressions containing the word “cold” have something to do with cold

C. people who show no human emotions or feelings have cold blood

D. many parts of the human body can be badly affected by cold

答案与解析:A 推理判断题。文中所介绍的含有cold的几个短语均为负面或贬义词。并非所有含cold的短语都与cold(寒冷)有关,所以B项不对;C项是文中所提到的一个方面;D项与文章内容无关。所以答案选A。

C

All parents know that one of their most important tasks is to prepare their children for an independent life, but any parent can tell you that it's hard to let go of your children. That balance between keeping your children safe and allowing them to learn from their own mistakes can be heartbreaking. Years of experience means that parents often do know best, but on the other hand, the young, being less bound by tradition, are often more creative, more able to find new solutions to old problems. Revolutions_are_led_by_the_young.

Good teachers make the growth of critical (批判性的) thinking easier in their students, only to find that this can lead to a questioning of the teachers' basic beliefs. Schools encourage parents to become involved, but are often embarrassed when parents have reservations about some of the educational methods being used. Governments encourage unimportant groups to empower themselves in order to participate fully in the development process. And they are often surprised when the new leaders of these groups turn around and attack the policies of that same government. The rebellious (叛逆的)young and the newly unimportant groups are important in social development. They are not necessarily representatives of those they want to represent or not realistic in their demands, but their voices must be heard.

Good parents know that just forbidding particular behaviors does not prevent their children from finding ways to engage in these forbidden activities. Indeed, sometimes the forbidden fruit is more inviting, just because it is not accepted by authority. Parents must work with their children to educate them on the facts, know as much as possible about the lives of their children, provide a good example, encourage more wholesome activities but also support their children when they don't follow what is expected of them. But the most important point is that they also need to learn how to let go.

saying “Revolutions are led by the young” in Paragraph 1, the author indicates that young people are more________.

A. conventional B. realistic

C. creative D. heartbreaking

答案与解析:C 句意理解题。根据第一段中the young, being less bound by tradition, are often more creative, more able to find new solutions to old problems.可知年轻人更具有创造力。所以答案选C。

the second paragraph we know ________.

A. teachers' basic beliefs should be questioned by students

B. schools encourage parents to question their educational methods

C. the government is satisfied with the new leaders' attack on the policies

D. the voice of the rebellious young should be heard by the government

答案与解析:D 细节理解题。根据第二段最后一句They are not necessarily representatives of those they want to represent or not realistic in their demands, but their voices must be heard.可知叛逆的青年人的声音应该被听到,故答案选D。

order to educate children well, parents should ________.

A. forbid particular behaviors in their daily life

B. know them well and set a good example to them

C. educate them with facts and expect much of them

D. know as much as possible as their children

答案与解析:B 细节理解题。根据第三段第一句话可判断A项错误;由know as much as possible about the lives of their children可知D项有误;C项中expect much of them有误;综合第三段可知家长应了解子女并为子女树立榜样,故答案选B。

the passage we can learn that the author prefers ________.

A. free parenting

B. traditional parenting

C. smart parenting

D. critical parenting

答案与解析:D 推理判断题。综合全文内容可知作者更喜欢具有批判性态度的家长,所以答案选D。

D

The relationship between humans and animals has always been complex. Some cultures have developed entire belief systems around favored animals. Even in cultures with less formal belief systems, connections between people and animals still lead to commonly accepted opinions about animals.

These belief systems usually develop around the animals that interact(互动) with humans most frequently. Therefore, it should not be surprising that so many stories surround the most common of animals: rats. Rats live side by side with humans all over the world and regularly interact with people. Human-rat coexistence may be common all around the world, but different cultures respond to that closeness in different ways.

In the United States and Europe, one typical attitude is that the rat is a pest. This could be due to the common belief that rats spread disease. Actually, they don't, at least not directly, but many people don't know that. The Pied Piper of Hamlin, a well-known children's story, is one example of how rats have been described in Western literature: in that story, rats cause such a problem that a town has to hire a piper to call them all away.

In many Latin American countries, the rat is described in a very different way. The story of the tooth fairy (a fairy believed by children to leave money while they sleep in exchange for a tooth that has come out) is common all over the world, but in Latin America, the “fairy” is a rat! Rats do have very strong teeth, which could explain the association. Clearly, this shows another attitude towards rats that is much more positive.

Yet another attitude towards the rat can be seen in the Chinese Zodiac(生肖) Rat is one of the animals of the Zodiac. Like the other zodiac animals, the Rat is neither entirely good nor entirely bad. It's described as clever and friendly, but also tricky and not entirely honest. That may be the most accurate description of the rat so far. Whether you like rats or not, it's hard to deny their reputation for cleverness.

As many people are discovering these days, rats can even make excellent pets, so long as you remember to close the cage carefully!

does the passage mainly talk about?

A. A trend of keeping rats as pets.

B. How different cultures look at rats.

C. How humans get along with animals.

D. Favored animals in different cultures.

答案与解析:B 主旨大意题。根据第一段内容及第二段Human-rat coexistence may be common all around the world, but different cultures respond to that closeness in different ways.可知本文主要讨论的是不同的文化对老鼠的不同看法。所以答案选B。

rats in The Pied Piper of Hamlin appear ________.

A. unpleasant B. honest

C. smart D. unusual

答案与解析:A 细节理解题。根据第三段rats cause such a problem that a town has to hire a piper to call them all away可知在《哈姆林的吹笛者》一书中对老鼠的描述是不好的,所以答案选A。

tooth fairy in Latin America mentioned in Paragraph 4 is to show ________.

A. the tooth fairy is lovely

B. rats look very frightening

C. rats are welcome in Latin American countries

D. the story of the tooth fairy is common all over the world

答案与解析:C 细节理解题。根据第四段最后一句Clearly, this shows another attitude towards rats that is much more positive.可知在拉丁美洲的《牙仙大帝》一书中对老鼠的描述是受人欢迎的。所以答案选C。
