In the competitive world of investment banking, good senior executives are not easy to find. So what should the industry's hard-pressed directors do when they need to find senior staff? Increasingly, they decide to call in the headhunters. These are busy and profitable times for the recruitment agencies that dominate the world of executive search and selection.

However, there is little doubt that over its 13-year history, Pinnacle and its chairman, Matthew Edwards, have built up an impressive reputation.

Edwards estimates that his company controls between 10 and 15 per cent of the headhunting market for senior investment banking jobs in the UK. (9)er, it is the high-calibre jobs and people that Pinnacle deals with that define the company's success. For example, the company was recently commissioned to find a new chairman for NBS Bank, a vacancy that was one of the most talked about in the banking world.

Most HR directors recognise that headhunters such as Pinnacle play a valuable role in the recruitment process.(10) are concerned that a few companies, including Pinnacle, have too much power over high-level recruitment.(11) Tim Davidson, HR Director at Cawfield Bank, explains, They can be kingmakers. These are the people who decide who gets a future and who doesn't. If Edwards forms a view about an individual, it can affect their ability to get a particular job. That view could just have been formed on a bad day.' (12)............ Final decisions in the selection process are always taken by his clients, he says, whoever they are.

The role of headhunters should not be exaggerated. Many companies never use them. But as top executives are hard to find, there will always be a role for people like Matthew Edwards.

第八题,第二段的最后一句。第二段是简单引出猎头公司的起步,起步阶段并没有多少公司认识到猎头公司的重要性,就如第八题前面的一句话所说:It is hard to overstate the significance of this。很难高估这个的重要性,也就是说猎头公司的作用并没有被完全的认识到。后面的空格应该相应的填入猎头公司不太被重视的句子。E选项正好满足这个特点:直到几年前,甚至最大的公司都不可能一年利用猎头公司来填补一两个职位。

1、配对题

这道题很绕,因为出题者故意干扰你,让你明明觉得对了,对答案时却错了。做这道题就要注意积累商务英语词汇及短语的相似表达法,因为题目和文中98%不会有相同的表达,如果有相同的,那千万不要选,除非你意思全部理解到位,十分肯定的情况,因为那一般都是陷阱哈哈。还有就是八个题目,ABCDE五个选项一定都要选到,且一个选项最多选两次(经验所得,目前来看只有一套真题出现了一个选项选三次的情况,大家在不确定的情况下就好好权衡了哈)有些人是先看文章再看题,但这不适合我,有可能看了一遍文章后什么都没记住。所以我一般是先看第一段文章,然后再选题,顺带把所有题目看了,再继续看下面的文章。由于前面的题目已经看了一遍了,后面的就可以边看边选了。

2、排序题

这道题是在文章中挖6个坑,然后再给你两个干扰项,让你填回去。 最初做这道题的时候我只想用四个字形容:惨绝人寰!因为很有可能“牵一发动全身”,一个萝卜栽错了坑,可能其他四五个都不对了。这道题要注意每个空前后的代词和连词,有的是承接,换一种表达法;有的是转折;有的是对上文的总结等等。还有就是选项和所填那个空的前后文要一致。这道题多练练吧,练出感觉来了就能把错误率降低了。

3、阅读文章然后选题

这道题应该是大家最熟悉的题型了,6道题,一般文章也是六段,每段对应一道题;有时候是五段,那最后一道题就是总结性的题目。这道题一般我错1个左右,有时候真觉得题出得莫名其妙的,不知道为什么错。不过总的来说这部分比较简单,我就不多说了。

4、完形填空

这部分大家也比较熟悉,主要就是考词语辨析和各种介词短语啦。说来也变态,有时候四个选项完全分不清有什么区别,不过专四也有很多这种傻傻分不清楚的词类辨析,所以复习这里的时候就觉得轻松多啦。做这道题的时候最好6分钟就做完,可以省下很多时间。

5、填词

也是拿分题。刚开始做的时候可能有点摸不着底,因为就这样填词,也不知道填的对不对。但多做几套题总结规律了就好填多了。填的几乎都是小词,介词、连词、冠词还有个别名词等等。虽然个别答案有点匪夷所思,但我觉得这道题大体是凭语感,所以每次做完之后多读读,以后遇到空答案自然而然就出来了。

6、改错

最开始做改错的时候觉得挺难的,但也是多做做就有感觉了,到后来可能只错一两个。这道题会经常出些介词误导你,这要求平时对介词短语很敏感。12道题,一般有两三个是对的,如果实在找不到错,就要大胆的写上CORRCT,由于太久反而不利于做题,做完了还可以回头来看看有没有改错的。有的考的是句子,在短语和词汇里找不到错误时,一般就要上下求索,看看句子衔接或者主谓关系有没有错。这道题也是建议做完之后多读,培养语感。
