谷歌公司捐赠一百万对抗寨卡病毒

Google's charitable arm has donated $1m to Unicef to help stop the spread of the Zika virus. The virus is suspected to be linked to a large number of babies born with underdeveloped brains in Brazil.

近日,谷歌的慈善部门捐赠了一百万美元给联合国儿童基金会,以帮助禁止寨卡病毒的传播。该病毒被认为是导致巴西大量新生儿大脑发育畸形的罪魁祸首。

In February, the World Health Organization declared the Zika virus a global public health emergency.

今年二月,世界卫生组织宣布,寨卡病毒已经成为全球公共卫生危机。

Google said its grant would help to raise awareness, reduce mosquito populations and support the development of vaccines. "Today we have Google engineers working with Unicef to analyse data, to determine how to map and anticipate the virus," the company said in a blog post.

谷歌表示,这笔捐款将用于提高防范意识、减少蚊虫数量以及支持疫苗开发等方面。谷歌的一篇博客这样写道:“今天我们的谷歌工程师和联合国儿童基金会一起分析数据,确定如何认清并对抗该病毒。”

The firm's team of volunteers is designing open-source software that will be able to collate data, such as weather and travel information, to help predict how Zika may spread.

公司的志愿者团队正在开发一组开源软件,用来收集比如天气及出行信息的相关数据,以此来帮助预测寨卡病毒是如何传播的。

Google said it had also updated its search engine to display detailed information about Zika - available in 16 languages - for visitors to the US and other countries. The company is also working with popular YouTube channels in Latin America to produce information videos about the virus.

谷歌公司表示已经更新了搜索引擎,以此显示出关于寨卡的详情。这些信息通过16种语言的形式来显示,使得去美国及其他国家的旅游者能够了解。此外,该公司还和拉丁美洲的YouTube进行合作,制作关于该病毒的视频。

The World Health Organisation has identified the Zika virus as a serious global threat, in the same category of importance as Ebola.
