校服太贵! 英国名校吓跑家长!

Parents face spending hundreds of pounds on expensive branded uniforms if their children go to the UK's top state schools, research by the Daily Mail has revealed.

Many require them to fork out for clothes featuring official logos, prompting fears poorer families may be put off from applying.

At Holland Park School, in West London, the uniform has to be bought from one supplier at a total cost of up to 280 pounds.

Many schools have a strict dress code to encourage discipline and self-respect while also aiming to stop poorer children feeling left out by their peers wearing costly outfits.

But the Local Government Association warned that high costs at some schools could deter less well-off families.

Councillor Richard Watts said: 'Every year we hear of some schools insisting that parents buy a wide range of compulsory items, from branded blazers to specific socks.'
