Why are they here? China is supposed to be my private playground! Seeing other white people here makes me less special. I must be better than them. They are doing China wrong while I am the real authentic laowai. Oh how I hate them! Go back so I can live out my China dream!

I lie to taxi drivers when I want to feel good about my Chinese. "You've only been here six months? Your Chinese is excellent!"

我有一个想法。听好了，下次再有外国佬试图和你用普通话交流，不管他的普通话怎么样，你就告诉他说的灰常棒。傻逼们！While catching a bus from a small town to Beijing last summer they were playing ads which basically said "Pander to foreigners tell them their shitty Chinese is good!"I was torn. I think it is good to encourage people to learn the lingo but I hate that it will make all you pretender bastard interlopers feel at home in what is clearly supposed to be my foreign ghetto.
去年夏天我赶一辆从小城镇到北京的公车，上面在播放着一条广告，大概内容是说，“为了迎合外国人，外国人中文说得再差，我们也得跟他说中文讲得好。”我很困惑，我觉得鼓励人们去学外语是一件好事，但我很讨厌那种夸奖，虽然会让我们这些伪装的外国混蛋闯入者有宾至如归的感觉，但这种感觉本来应该属于我这种真会说中文的人。
