Greg walked into the office with his head hung low. His fellow co-workers saw his glum face and asked what was wrong. He informed them that he was unable to get the money he needed to fly home and see his family.
葛瑞格垂头丧气地走进办公室，同事看到他闷闷不乐的，便问他发生了什么事。他告诉大伙他没钱买机票回家看他的家人。
He had been working overseas for years. Each month he sends money back to his parents who care for his sister who has a disability. This year his whole family is getting together for a family reunion. Greg wanted to go very badly but he couldn’t afford it.
他在国外工作八年，每个月都要寄钱给父母让他们照顾残障的妹妹。今年，全家人团圆。他非常想回去，可是却负担不起。
His co-workers gave their sympathies, then told Greg that the boss wanted to see him. He walked down the hall and knocked on his boss’s door. His boss greeted him. “Greg, I know your vacation time is coming up. I thought you could use this.”
同事同情他的遭遇，并告诉葛瑞格老板要见他。他走到老板的门口，敲敲门，老板问候他。“葛瑞格，我知道你就快休假了，我想你也许用得着这个。”
He handed Greg an envelope. Greg opened it and saw a nice sized cheque. “It is your bonus cheque.” His boss informed him. “I thought you could use it sooner than later.” With a big smile, Greg thanked his boss. Greg had his ticket home.
他交给葛瑞格一个信封，葛瑞格打开，看到里头有张面额不小的支票。“这是你的红利奖金”，老板告诉他，“我想你很快就会需要它。”葛瑞格露出灿烂的笑容，谢谢他的老板，他终于有了返乡的机票。
四年级英语故事短文：The Coming CatastropheThe Earth is only one of the numerous planets. It is not unique. so one day, we had unexpected guests. Some Ets were coming. Unlike other Ets, they were unkind. They had unlimited ambition. They were unlikely to treat the earthmen well. The earth union held an urget meeting in a university. The world unity was essential in time of universal war. All the officers wore in chairman unlocked a door and guided the others to walk into the room. Then he unfolded a universal map. He said the earthmen must unite against the invaders. All the people that supported the chairman would be unified under his leadership. Unfortunately, the chairman was unfit for the position even though he said the people’s accusation was unjust. The chairman’s work was unsatisfactory. According to his order many workers were unloading weapons from ships in the harbor. All the weapons were unpaid. Nobody knew that most o f these weapons were unsuitable to cope with those Ets. the Earth was facing a catastrophe unlee some real leader replaced the chairman.
地球只是众多星球中的一个。它并非独一无二的，因此有一天我们有了意外的来客。一些外星人正朝地球来。不像其他外星人，他们非常不和善。他们有着无限的野心，他们未必善待地球人。地球同盟在一所大学里召开了紧急会议。在宇宙的战争中世界范围内的团结是很重要的。所有的军官都穿着制服。主席打开一扇门带领其他人走进屋子。然后他展开一幅宇宙地图。他说地球人必须团结起来反抗侵略者。所有支持主席的人将统一在他的领导之下。不幸地是，主席并不胜任这个职位，尽管他说人们的评价不公平。主席的工作不能令人满意，根据他的命令，很多工人在海港从船上卸下武器，所有武器的帐款都是未付的，没人知道大部分武器都不合适用来对付外星人。地球将面临大灾难。除非有真正的领导者取代主席。
四年级英语故事短文：免费火车Three engineers and three mathematicians are traveling by train to a conference. At the station, the three mathmaticians each buy tickets and watch as the three engineers buy only a single ticket.
三个工程师和三个数学家一起坐火车去参加会议。到了车站，三个数学家每人各买了一张票，却看到三个工程师只买了一张票。
"How are three people going to travel on only one ticket?" asks a mathmatician. "Watch and you'll see," answers the engineer.
“三个人只买一张票要怎么坐火车啊?”其中一名数学家问道。“等会你就知道了。”其中一名工程师回答。
They all board the train. The mathmaticians take their respective seats, but all three engineers cram into a restroom and close the door behind them.
他们全部上火车之后，数学家各自找到位子，三个工程师却挤进厕所，把身后的门给关上。
Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He koncks on the restroom door and says, "Ticket, please."
火车开动后不久，车长便来收票。他敲了敲厕所的门说：“车票，麻烦一下。”
The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The conductor takes it and moves on.
厕所门只打开一条缝，一只手拿了票伸了出来。车长车票一拿便继续往前走。
The mathmaticians see this and agree it is quite a clever idea, so after the conferrnce, they decide to copy the engineers on the return trip and save some money (being clever with money,and all that.)
数学家们看了都觉得这个点子真是聪明，会议结束后，便决定回程时学工程师，替自己省点钱(遇到和钱有关的事情，人自然就精明起来。)
When they get to the station, they buy a single ticket for the return trip. To their astonishment, the engineers don't buy a ticket at all.
到了车站，他们只买了一张回程票，但让他们惊讶的是，工程师们连一张票都没买。
"How are you going to travel without a ticket?" asks one perplexd mathmatician.
“你们没有票要怎么回去?”其中一名一头雾水的数学家问道。
"Watch and you'll see," answers an engineer.
“等会你就知道了。”其中一名工程师回答。
When they board the train, the three mathmaticians cram into one restroom and the three engineers cram into another one nearby.
大伙儿上火车之后，三个数学家便挤进厕所里，而三个工程师则挤到旁边另一间厕所。
The train departed, shortly afterward, one of the engineers leaves his room and walks over to the restroom where the mathmaticians are hiding. He knocks on the door and says,"Ticket, please."
火车开动后不久，其中一名工程师便从厕所出来走到数学家藏身的厕所，敲了敲门说道：“车票，麻烦一下。”
