小学生英语故事比赛稿:The miser and his gold 守财奴

Once upon a time there was a miser. He hid his gold under a tree. Every week he used to dig it up.

One night a robber stole all the gold. When the miser came again, he found nothing but an empty hole.

He was surprised, and then burst into the neighbors gathered around him.

He told them how he used to come and visit his gold.

"Did you ever take any of it out?" asked one of them. "No," he said, "I only came to look at it." "Then come again and look at the hole," said the neighbor, "it will be the same as looking at the gold."

Both the fat foxes and the beautifully striped leopards inhabit in forests, and stay in caves having a tranquil(平静的) life.

They only come out at night and during the daytime they stay in caves vigilantly(警惕地). Even if they are very hungry and thirsty, they only go to unfrequented places to look for food. They never go beyond their bounds to compete with human. But they still cannot survive the hunter's traps and snares. What fault do they have? It is just the misfortune brought by their beautiful furs and pelts.

After winning several archery(箭术) contests, the young and rather boastful champion challenged a Zen master who was renowned for his skill as an archer.

The young man demonstrated remarkable technical proficiency(技术熟练) when he hit a distant bull's eye on his first try, and then split that arrow with his second shot.

"There," he said to the old man, "see if you can match that!"

Undisturbed, the master did not draw his bow, but rather motioned for the young archer to follow him up the mountain.

Curious about the old fellow's intentions, the champion followed him high into the mountain until they reached a deep chasm spanned by a rather flimsy and shaky log.

Calmly stepping out onto the middle of the unsteady and certainly perilous(危险的) bridge ,the old maser picked a far away tree as a target, drew his bow, and fired a clean, direct hit.

"Now it is your turn," he said as he gracefully stepped back onto the safe ground. Staring with terror into the seemingly bottomless and beckoning abyss, the young man could not force himself to step out onto the log, no less shoot at a target. "You have much skill with your bow," the master said, sensing his challenger's predicament, "but you have little skill with the mind that lets loose the shot."

  小学生英语故事比赛稿:Oh Mighty Garments

A Brahmin, a member of the Hindu priest, had a great reputation for holiness, and received many presents so that he became rich.

One day, he took a fancy to dress himself as a poor peasant.

In this attire(服装), he went into the market place but no one saluted him and no one gave him any presents.

The Brahmin then returned to his house and, dressing himself in rich garments, once more set out for the market place.

This time, everybody saluted him and made way for him and many handed him presents.

This was the usual custom when a holy Brahmin happened to make his appearance in the market place. Once again, the Brahmin returned to his home and changed his clothes.

Then, taking the rich garments, he set them up on a shrine near the market.

As he prostrates himself before them, cried continually: "O mighty garments, you areesteemed above all else in this world."

The people gathered round in wonder. And in time came to worship the clothes as this Brahmin was doing.

This custom has spread farther and farther. Now in many countries around the world, trendy and fashionable people do the same thing, though not, perhaps in the way as the Brahmin did.
