两篇观点不同的参考范文:

1.同化的积极面

Currently, the topic of global homogeneity is a rather hot topic. I currently live in China and find the whole thing to be a fairly good example of cognitive dissonance. While Chinese people and their media like to use phrases such as “Chinese culture” and “X with Chinese characteristics” , I find it interesting that many cannot define what Chinese culture actually is, or resort to the past in an attempt to define the present. While China definitely had its own culture hundreds of years ago, the case is becoming harder to make today, when you see Chinese people wearing Jeans and T- shirts, shopping for international fashion brands, driving BMWs, using iPhones and eating at KFC. Ultimately, I suspect the question is largely irrelevant. While Chinese people obviously had their own culture and products, it wasn’ t exactly alien to the West, or other parts of the East. They still lived in houses, used language and ate food – the differences were, to all intents and purposes, rather small. As such, I feel that cultural nuances can be used to justify a sense of “us and them” and foster negative attitudes about other peoples in an attempt to boost one’ s own self- esteem by saying “I belong to this cultural group, therefore I must be a good person” . While the loss of various nuances of cultures and products and the world becoming a less diverse place is, in some ways, a sad thing, I feel that in the end it’ s better than the sort of Nationalism of chauvinistic sentiments that led to the Nazis, the imperial Japanese or the idea of manifest destiny in the American West. 2.同化的消极面

In this essay, I will argue that the lack of diversity is a negative thing. Nowadays, we can see that many people have become obsessed with the idea of conforming to cultural stereotypes that are beyond their own frames of reference. I feel that this is a negative development because it leads to people setting aside their local products and cultures – the ones that made and defined their societies in the first place. If we allow this to continue, the world of the future will be a very dull place. Currently, it is unarguable that American culture and products are predominant across the globe, with rap music popular in every country, as well as the eating habits of Americans becoming a staple trend in virtually every society. If this continues, we will lose any sense of diversity among peoples – languages will die out and customs will be forgotten. While some people may argue that this doesn’ t really matter, or approach it from a Darwinian standpoint (e. g. if your culture and products are so good, why does everyone want to be like Americans), I would argue that people are simply conforming to a narrow viewpoint perpetuated by media companies in an effort to boost (mostly American) revenue streams.

As such, it is clear that we need to re- examine why we buy the products we do and what the alternatives are if we are ever to break free of the stranglehold American culture has over the rest of the world. To do this, however, we need to understand the past as well as the reasons why people choose to conform to Western conceptions of success or beauty. (277 words)
