Pressure has been mounting for new graduates fromBeijing's colleges who want to land a job here, as thecapital caps population.

由于首都严控人口规模,想在京就业的北京高校应届毕业生面临的压力正不断加剧。

"Years ago, at least 60% of our graduates had theirfirst jobs in Beijing, but the percentage is less thanhalf now," said Lyu Yuan of Peking University'semployment center.

据北京大学就业中心的吕燕介绍,往年该校至少六成的毕业生可以在北京找到第一份工作,但如今这个比例已经少于五成。

Some find jobs, but cannot obtain a hukou or residency permit, which means they cannot buyan apartment here and, in the future, their children cannot go to school here.

一些人找到了工作,但不能解决户口,这意味着他们不能在北京买房,以后他们的子女也不能在这边上学。

Starting this year, Beijing has been capping its population as it pushes forward the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regional integration program. The capital has been moving out labor-intensiveand polluting industries, such as real-estate construction, steel, coal and machinery.

从今年开始,北京在推进京津冀区域一体化项目的同时也一直在控制人口规模,将房地产建设、钢铁、煤炭和机械等劳动密集型和污染型产业往外迁移。

"The outflow of graduates has been more voluntary in recent years, as students evade a high-cost, high-pressure lifestyle in Beijing. Meanwhile, we are also advising and assisting studentsto seek jobs in other cities," Lyu said.

吕燕说道:“近年来,随着学生们逃避北京高成本、高压力的生活方式,毕业生们越来越自愿到外地工作。同时,我们也建议和协助学生到其他城市找工作。”

Across the country, as the job-hunting season starts, pressure has been mounting for newgraduates, as the tepid economy has seen companies slash positions.

从全国来看,随着求职季开始,由于疲软的经济导致公司削减职位,应届毕业生的压力越来越大。

This year, there were 7.65 million new college graduates in China. Only about 80 percent ofthem found jobs immediately after graduating. Figures from the Ministry of Education showthere will be more than 7.95 million graduates next year.

今年全中国应届毕业生人数将达到765万人。只有大约80%的人在毕业后立即找到了工作。据教育部的数据显示,明年毕业生的人数将超过795万人。

The number of pupils caught cheating in GCSE andA-level exams using their mobile phones thissummer has increased, new data reveals.

最新数据显示,在今年夏季的普通中等教育证书考试(GCSE)和“英国高考”(A-level)当中,因使用手机作弊被抓的学生人数有所增加。

A rising number of teachers have also been punishedfor malpractice because they wrongly gave help toteenagers during exams.

While the overall rate of malpractice has lowered slightly, by 1 per cent, this is actually lessthan the decrease in the exam-taking population.

In contrast, the number of pupils who snuck smart phones into their exams increased by 14 per cent, from 790 to 900 incidents.

Mobile phones are a growing problem for exam invigilators, as pupils can use them to look upanswers on the internet. They can also contact friends and family to help them during exams.

Pupils taking unauthorised material into the exam room was the most common form ofmalpractice, making up 54 per cent of cases.

The second most common was plagiarism, copying from other candidates or collusion — accounting for 420 penalties, or 17 per cent of the total.

And disruptive behaviour in the exam room resulted in 140 penalties, accounting for 6 percent of the overall figure.

A further 80 penalties, or 3 per cent, were issued because pupils had failed to follow examboard supervision requirements, or tried to obtain, receive, exchange or pass informationrelated to an exam.
