Pain is temporary. It may last for a minute, or an hour, or a day, or even a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it will last forever.

1. 词链儿：XX will last for XX 持续XX多久

We won't last two days. 我们过不了两天。

last 作动词用，作“持续”、“足够”。下面四句都正确：

The supply will last five days.
The supply will last me five days.
The supply will last for five days.
The supply will last me for five days.

XX will last forever. XX会永远持续。

2. 词链儿：XX will subside

sub+side: sub- (under) + sidere (to settle) =to sink to a lower level, be reduced
subside verb. 减弱; 消退;

The pain had subsided during the night.

晚间疼痛已经减轻了。

As tears subside, I find it all so amusing. 泪水过后，我发现一切如此轻松自然。

3. 词链儿：XX will take its place

词链儿：take someone's/something's place 取代XX

Someone will take my place the next day. 第二天会有人接替我的位置。

=replace XX

She's trying to replace me. 她想取代我。
