M: Yes. After so many years of hard work, I’d rather I had an office of my own.

W: If you need help, don’t hesitate to ask me.

M: I’ll be very glad if you would help.

W: I’d like to wish you every success in your new venture.

M: Thank you. I wish I would.

W: Good luck to you.

M: I’d rather you told her.

Dialogue 4

M: You know John?

W: Which John? bow’s son?

M: Yes. I’ve read news about him in today’s paper.

W: And he’s bright and intelligent. I’m sure he can pass the university entrance exam.

M: I wish he could too.

W: How’s your boy, Jack?

M: He’s a bit tired, you know. It often takes him a couple of hours to brush up.

W: Poor boys! They work harder at school nowadays, don’t they?

M: Good luck to them.

Dialogue 5

W: Your house is very old. Does it need redecorating?

M: Yes, it really needs redecorating.

W: Shall I help you with it?

M: I don’t suppose you could.

M: I’ll be glad if you would.

Dialogue 6

W: Happy birthday, John. Many happy returns of the day!

M: Thank you, Alice. Come in to the dining-room. I’m going to cut the cake soon. Have some please.

W: Well, making good wishes.

M: Ok. I’m pretty happy and I can go abroad.

W: Sure. We hope your wish will come true.

I wish I could come with you on the trip to New York. It sounds very exciting. But I really feel I must say no. In the first place, I’m not sure I have enough money. I spent so much last year. I really hope I’ll find a part-time job. As well as that, I don’t really have a suitable set of clothes. Then if I passed the examination, I would like to prepare for university in September. Lastly, there’s mother’s health. If she gets better, I think I can leave home.
