口语课堂第158期:你能区分weight和weigh吗?

大家好，欢迎来到可可口语课堂。Weigh和weigh是很重要的词汇，但这两个词你都掌握好了吗？
weigh:
1. Weigh 作动词的基本意思是“称…的重量”。
Cao Chong thought of a way to weigh the elephant．曹冲想出了一个称大象的办法。
Can you weigh this letter for me please? 能帮我称一下这封信吗？
2. Weigh引申可以表示“仔细考虑某事物的相对价值或重要性等”，也就是“权衡”“斟酌”，为及物动词。
He weighed the ideas in his mind. 他在脑中权衡着这些想法。
He has to weigh his words when he talks to her. 他对她说话都得小心翼翼。
3. Weigh引申还可表示感伤、恐惧或忧虑的事给思想或精神带来压力，使人感到烦扰或悲痛。
固定短语weigh on表示“重压于；使苦恼”。
The wealth did not weigh on me. 这笔财富不再使我感到沉重。
Didn't the nurse's accident weigh on her at all? 这个护士的事故难道不使她苦恼吗 ?

weight:
1. Weight作名词基本意思是“重量，分量”，是不可数名词。
He gained some weight recently. 近来，他的体重增加了。
2. weights 砝码
He placed two weights in the scale pan. 他在天平盘上放了两个砝码。
3. Weight表示“重要性、严重性或影响力（的程度）”时也是不可数名词。
We had this understanding that courses were roughly the same weight.
我们已经了解到各门功课差不多一样重要。
4. Weight引申可表示“负荷，负担”，表示这种意思的时候它通常只用于单数形式。
The loss of the money has been a weight on my mind. 丢钱的事总是压在我心里。
5. 一般来说weight作为名词的情况使用得多一点，若它作动词则表示to add to; make heavy or heavier（使……变重，加重量于）；还可以表示To cause to have a slant or bias（使倾斜：使有斜面或偏见）。
