Let the cat out of the bag 揭露秘密
让猫跑出袋子吧。看来这只被关的小猫就指代一个秘密了。来看一个例子：
I wanted mother’s present to be a secret, but my sister let the cat out of the bag. 我希望给妈妈的礼物是个秘密，可我妹妹却把事情给泄露了。
另一个和let the cat out of the bag意思接近的习语是blow the whistle on someone. 不过前者比较中性，秘密可好可坏；而后者一般指不好的秘密。
Blow the whistle on someone 检举，揭发
He was dismissed when he tried to blow the whistle on the safety problems of the factory. 当他试图揭发工厂安全问题的时候，他被解雇了。
有些秘密被别人曝光，揭发。有时候憋在心里的话不想再继续隐藏，于是选择get something off one’s chest. 主动将秘密告诉某个人。

If something is bothering you, get it off your chest and tickle your mind. 有什么困扰你的秘密就把它说出来吧，说完心里也就敞亮了。

除了被揭露的秘密，和自己愿意说出的秘密，还有些时候秘密是在不情愿的状态下被自己不小心暴露出来，这时，可以用give the game away来表达这个意思。
Give the game away 露出马脚
We were trying to pretend we didn’t know it was her birthday but Sam gave the game away. 我们都在努力装作不知道是她的生日，但是Sam却漏了馅儿。
If you keep giving out hints, you’ll give the game away. 如果你再继续暗示，就彻底把计划暴露了。
