Elvin：Hey Daphne, this is my friend John. He's visiting Nanjing from New York.

Daphne：Oh, hi, John. Nice to meet you. So, um,are you visiting for business or pleasure?

John：Well,actually, a little of both. I'm meeting some business contacts, but i'm also taking Mandarin classes too.
（嗯，实际上两者都有吧。我是来见一些业务上的联系人，但是我也在学一点中文。）
Daphne：That's cool. How's it going?
（那很好啊，那你学的怎么样呢？）
John：Well，I'm finding the classes pretty tough,actually,but i'm having a great time in Nanjing. It's really an amazing city.

Daphne：It sure is. Are you staying for long?
（是啊，没错，你打算长住吗？）
John：Only two weeks unfortunately. I wish I could stay longer but...

Daphne：Well, listen, if you need someone to show you the sights then just call me. I'm having a little get together at my new apartment next week, so if you want to drop by then...

语言剖析

Hey Daphne, this is my friend John. He's visiting Nanjing from New York.介绍很简单，但是这里有一个细节，我们往往会忽略，那就是解释说明。解释John是来自纽约，来南京访问的。这样方便接下来Daphne就这个信息和John进行对话。如果直接说“Hey Daphne, this is my friend John.”则缺乏这样的效果了。

Are you visiting for business or pleasure? 那你是来工作还是来玩的
Business表示工作，商务;pleasure表示享受的，吃喝玩乐 ，意思是旅游，
business or pleasure 是个固定说法，我们不说business or travel，就像是成语，不能把中间的一个字两个字改掉。

,actually, a little of both.
Well,actually 嗯，实际上 a little of both 两者都有一点
atually的意思是事实上，但其实在口语中常常用作口头禅，和well一样，表示“嗯嗯”，或者你不知道如何立马回答对话的问题，用“well”，“actually”来缓冲，想想如何回答，这样要比尴尬的“嗯~ 饿~ 甚至那个~”要好很多。
这个小技巧在雅思考试和四六级口语考试中很实用哦，当你不知道该说什么，又不得不说些什么来避免冷场的时候就可以用“well”，“actually”.

How's it going?是一个简单但是非常实用的表达，表示进展的如何？ 期末考试了，问同学复习的怎么样啦，你可以说How's it going?问同事工作进展的怎样了，你也可以说How's it going?

当你有新的尝试，新的体验时，是一个简单但是非常实用的表达，表示进展的如何？I'm finding the classes pretty tough，我觉得中文课好难学呀！
我觉得南京是一个很棒的城市，可以说I'm finding Nanjing amazing；我觉得我的新工作非常有意思，I am finding my new job interesting.

7. I'm having a little get together at my new apartment next week.
a little get together 一个小聚会
little get together,通常指的是女生的小聚会，especially for girls.如果是男生的话可以用have some friends over ，下周我们要在KTV搞个聚会怎么说呢？I’m having some friends over in KTV next week！是不是表达瞬间高大上了很多？

记下电话号码一般不用write down，用take down，也可以用I want to get your number，或者could you give me your number？

9.文化1：隐私
结识新朋友，互相介绍、寒暄的内容其实大同小异。可以准备一些“罐头”用语，以备不时之需。今天的对话内容就是很好的例子。不过和美国人接触时，最好避免一些他们认为比较私人或敏感的话题，比如年龄、金钱、种族等。
