近期，我们一直针对“but”这个词作为“除了......”这个意思解释时，我们在使用时会走入的误区进行学习和探究，那么我们今天来做个总结归纳。

第一、当but和could not choose搭配一起来表示“别无选择只好做某事”的意思时，but后面跟动词原形，即：could not but do something。

例句回顾：We could not choose but ask for help.

我们别无选择只好求助。

错误表述：We could not choose but to ask for help.

第二、当but和could not help 搭配一起来表示“忍不住，禁不住做某事”的意思时，but后面直接跟动词原形，即：could not help but do something。

例句回顾：I could not help but accept his conditions.

我们无可奈何只有接受他的条件。

错误表述：I could not help but to accept his conditions.

第三、当but后面是人称代词，不是做主语的情况下，跟人称代词的宾格形式。如果做主语的话，就使用主格形式。

例句回顾：They all have been to mountain Tai but me.

除了我之外，其他人都去过泰山。

错误表述：They all have been to mountain Tai but I.

例句回顾：Who but he would do such a thing?

除了他还有谁做这样的事情呢？

错误表述：Who but him would do such a thing.

第四、当but和for一起连用作为复合介词的话，句子要使用虚拟语气。But for是“倘若没有，要不是”的意思，在句中用作状语，其后面常常是已经发生的事情，那么虚拟语气在句子中的谓语的体现是使用过去完成时，不要使用一般过去式。

例句回顾：But for her help , we could not have won the game.

要是没有她的帮助，我们不可能获胜的。

错误表述：But for her help , we cannot win the game.

第五、当but和do nothing连用表示“除了做某事其他事情没做”，but后面接动词原形，即：do nothing but do something.

例句回顾：Yesterday I did nothing but write some new words.

昨天，我就写了几个新词，其余的事情就没做了。

错误表述：Yesterday I did nothing but to write some new words.

第六、除了以上说的情况外，句子的谓语如果不是do的任何形式，but后面接动词就得接带to的不定式，即：but to do something。

例句回顾：I miss the last bus, I had no choice but to take a taxi.

我错过了最后一班公交车，只好打的了。

错误表述：I miss the last bus, I had no choice but take a taxi.
