【场景一】

Thanksgiving临近了，大家聚在Central Perk讨论节日计划...
Monica:How about I cook dinner at my place? I'll make it just like Mom's.
Ross: Will you make the mashed potatoes with the lumps?
Monica: You know, they're not actually supposed to have... (当她看到Ross那种好像受了很大伤害的表情后马上说) I'll work on the lumps. Joey, you're going home, right?
Joey: Yeah.
Monica: And I assume, Chandler, you are still boycotting all the pilgrim holidays.
Chandler: Yes, every single one of them.

Rachel打算和家人团聚,并像以往那样一起去滑雪,此时的她正在辛苦地筹错自己的机票钱,正当她一筹莫展时,朋友们伸出了援手...
Monica:Hey, Rach, did you make your money?
Rachel: No,not even close. Forget Vail,forget seeing my family,forget shoop,shoop,shoop.
Monica:Rach, here's your mail.
Rachel:Thanks, you can just put it on the table.
Monica:No, here's your mail.
Rachel:Thanks, you can just put it on the table.
Monica:Would you just open it?
Rachel:Oh my god, oh, you guys are great.

【讲解】

1. boycott vt 抵制，拒绝出席，拒绝参加

They're boycotting the shop because the people there are on strike.
他们抵制那家商店, 因为那里的店员在罢工。

2. chip in 这是一个很有用的词汇，是“出钱、捐献”的意思，但不同于“donate”，一般用于几个人凑钱合伙做一件事，比如几个人凑钱买了台电视，买了瓶酒；为参加某个人的婚礼，即个人合伙凑了一个大红包，这些情况都可以用chip in

这个词在《老友记》中还出现过一次，就是后面Ross刚搬进ugly naked guy的公寓，就赶上公寓的管理员Howard退休,大家凑了一笔钱给他以示感谢，而Ross拒绝出钱，以至于被大家冷落，但Phoebe却和他们很融洽，还参加了他们的晚会，
原因就是She chipped in,by the way，Ross said that.
