基本概况Beijing Foreign Studies University(BFSU)is a state key university under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and a university of high learning with a long history，mufti disciplines and languages.
北京外国语大学是教育部直属的全国重点院校之一，是我国外语院校中历史最悠久、层次齐全、语种最多的高等院校。
BFSU is situated in Beijing City and covers an area of 310 000 square University library is composed of the Southern Building and the Northern Building，cavering near 10 000 square meters with t 000 seats for reading. The library has a total collection of 920 000 volumes，over 1 200 newspapers and magazines in Chinese and foreign languages and over 8000 audio and video materials of all kinds，forming its characteristic with the main collection of material in the fields of language，literature and culture.
北京外国语大学位于北京市，占地面积31万平方米。大学图书馆由南馆和北馆组成，面积约10000平方米，内设阅览座位1 000席馆藏文献总量约92万册，中外文期一刊 1200多种，各种音像资料 8000多件，已初步形成了以语言、文学、文化为主要资料的馆藏特色。BFSU comprises 7 academic colleges，10 schools and departments. At presentBFSU offers a total of 44 undergraduate programs，18 of them are the state only disciplines. It has 1 post-doctoral research station，9 doctoral programs，13 graduate programs at the master's level，6 ors-the一!ob master's degrees，2 state key disciplines，3 Beijing Municipal key disciplines and 1 state key research institute of huamanites and social sciences.
北京外国语大学现有7个学院，10个系部，开设44个本科专业，其中18种语言是全国唯一学科点。现设有一个博士后流动站，9个博士点，13个硕士点，在沪人员学位授权点6个，2个国家级重点学科点，3个北京市重点学科点，一个国家级重点文科研究基地。
BFSU has a highly qualified faculty which is comprised of academically--re--nowned professors and scholars with great potential in the field of foreign language and literature，culture，translation. The University has a full-time faculty of 57，including 41 doctoral supervisors，221 master supervisors，113 full professors，177 associate professors. What is more，there are 2 members of the Subject Assessmeet Division，Degree Appraisal Committee of the State Council，4 middle-age andyoung experts with outstanding contributions at the national level and 128 recipients of special subsidies from the central government.
北京外国语大学拥有一批在外国语言文学、文化、翻译等领域具有较强实力，在社会上有较高学术声望的教授、学者，师资力量相当雄厚。全校拥有专任教师576，包括博士生导师41人、硕士生导师221人，教授113人、副教授177人，其中，国务院学位委员会学科组成员2名，教育部高校外语专业教学指导委员会委员13名，国家级有突出贡献中青年专家4名，享受政府特殊津贴人员128名。BFSU is striving to build itself into a first-class and world-renowned，teaching and research oriented socialist university till 2010 with multi-languages，multi-disciplines and multi-levels in the cultivation of both compound foreign talents of double-language and high-quality and professionals with strong foreign Language ability in such majors concerning foreign affairs o f economics，administration，diplomacy news and law.

历史变迁1941 Yan'an Foreign Language School，the predecessor of Beijing Foreign Studies University，was founded.
1941年北京外国语大学的前身延安外国语学校创办。1946 Yan'an Foreign Language School and the Foreign Language Department of North China United University merged to form Foreign Language College
1946年与华北联合大学外语系合并成立外国语学院。1949 Foreign Language College move to Beijing and was renamed Foreign Language School.
1949年学校迁人北京，更名为外国语学校。1954 It was renamed Beijing Foreign Language Institute.
1954年更名为北京外国语学院。1959 The former Beijing Foreign language Institute and Beijing Russian Language Institute merged to form a new Beijing Foreign Language Institute.
1959年北京外国语学院与北京俄语学院合并为新的北京外国语学院1994 The Institute was renamed Beijing ForeignStudies University.
1994年学校由北京外国语学院更名为北京外国语大学。
