The University of Science and Technology of China(USTC ) is a state key comprehensive university under the leadership of the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS) with the emphasis on up-to-day science and high-tech，supplemented by characteristic administration and liberal arts. USTC was approved by the Central Government as one of the first BAtch of universities obtaining the support of construction in the“Project 985”and“Project 211”and is the only university taking part in the implementation of the CAS“Knowledge Innovation Program".
中国科学技术大学是中国科学院所属的一所以前沿科学和高新技术为主、兼有特色管理和人文学科的综合性全国重点大学。学校是国家首批实施‘'985工程”和“211工程”的大学之一，也是唯一参与国家知识创新工程的大学。
The University was founded in Beijing in September of 1958. Mr. Guo Moruo is the first president of the University. The establishment was hailed as“A Major Event in the History of Chinese Education and Science" has supported the Universify by combining most of its institutes with the departments of the is listed in the top 16 national key universities by the Central Committee of the CCP, becoming the youngest national key university.
学校1958年9月创建于北京，首任校长由郭沫若兼任。它的创办被称为“我国教育史和科学史上的一项重大事件”。中国科学院实施“全院办校，所系结合”，支持学校的发展。建校第二年即被列为全国重点大学，成为最年轻的全国重点大学。USTC is located in Hefei，the capital of Anhui Province. The campus covers a total area of I .46 million square meters with 890 000 square meters of floor Library was established in 1958. The main building is the sixteen-story Central Library with a total construction area of 16 383 square meters. The collection of the library contains over 1 .73 million books and over 3 000 current journals in Chinese and foreign languages.
学校位于安徽省合肥市，校园总面积约146万平方米，建筑面积89万平方米。大学图书馆建于1958年，16层的图书馆主楼建筑面积达16 383平方米。目前图书馆收藏书刊173万册，3 000余种中文科技期刊。
USTC possesses 9 schools，25 departments，the Special Class for the Gifted Young，the Experimental Class for the Teaching Reform，the Graduate School，School of Management(Beijing)，the Software School，School of Network Education，and School of Continuing Education. The University offers 43 undergraduate specialties，17 first-category Ph. D. degree programs，89 Ph. D. degree programs，105 second-category master degree second-category also boasts 3 professional master degree specialties of MBA，MPA and Master of Engineering，]7 post-doctoral mobile stations，45 specialties for the post-doctoral mobile stations. USTC has 17 National Key Disciplines，4 national bases for the basic scientific research and the training of the talented teaching personnel. The University also boasts 3 national research institutions and 6 CAS key labs.
学校有9个学院、25个系和少年班、教改试点班，以及研究生院、管理学院(北京)、软件学院、网络教育学院、继续教育学院。学校现拥有43个本科专业，17个一级学科博士学位授权点，89个二级学科博士学位授权点，105个二级学科硕士点;还拥有工商管理硕士、公共管理硕士、工程硕士等专业硕士学位授予点3个，博士后流动站17个，博士后流动站学科专业45个。学校拥有17个国家级重点学科，4个国家基础学科人才培养和科学研究基地，3个国家研究所，6个中科院重点实验室。The University has more than 3 600 faculty and staff numbers，including 1 100 full-time teachers，330 professional researchers，26 CAS and CAE academicians，6 academicians of The 3 rd World Academy of Science，538 doctor supervisors，491 full professors and 559 associate professors.
现有教职工3 600多人，其中教师1 100人，专职研究人员330人。有中国科学院和中国工程院院士26人，第三世界科学院院士6人，博士生导师538人，教授491人，副教授559人。The number of students accepting normal higher education at USTC totals 19 208，including 2 037 Ph. D. students，5 401 master degree students，7 541 undergraduate students，and 2 141 master degree students of CAS. The quality of undergraduate students ranks the first among all the institutions of higher learning in the country so far.
普通高等教育在校生19 208人，其中博士生2 037人，硕士生5 401人，本科生7 514人，中科院代培研究生2 141人。本科生生源和培养质量一直在全国高校中名列前茅。In the light of the overall school construction plan，all the members of USTC have no other alternative but to take every opportunity and holding firmly to reformand innovation to build USTC into a first-rate research-oriented university of appropriate scale，outstanding quality，reasonable structure and distinctive characteristicsby the year 2018，realizing its goal of“Building a First-class University，and Cultivating Top-level Talents".
