This weekly four-day physical activity schedule will get your kids excited about being active.

Tuesday

When the kids get home from school, don’t let them go straight to the TV and get settled in. Encourage them to get moving and get off the couch(沙发) by giving them a pedometer(计步器). Pedometers are the most fun when parents also use one because that turns stepping, walking and running into a game to see who can get the most steps.

Thursday

The kids have done a great job so far this week, but now they long for a little more TV time. Instead of turning on cartoons, let them watch fitness movies made just for kids. These movies encourage watchers to get up and dance along to kid-friendly music.

Saturday

Get the whole family out of the house together and over to a park. Bring lots of sports equipment, pack a healthy picnic and have a family competitive sports day. Kids and adults get into groups and play against each other in tennis, basketba ll or soccer. After everyone has played hard for a couple of hours, stop for a picnic and then if your family isn’t too tired, go back and play some more.

Sunday

Every child loves to play video games and there is no better time to allow kids to play them than on Sunday when no homework is due. But don’t let them play a game that forces them to sit down for hours. Dan ce games with a floor mat(垫子) to help kids follow the dance moves are popular to kids.

In the depths of the French Guianese rainforest, there still remain unusual groups of indigenous(土著的) people. Surprisingly, these people live largely by their own laws and their own social customs. And yet, people in this area are in fact French citizens because it has been a colony(殖民地) of the French Republic since 1946. In theory, they should live by the French law. However, their remote locations mean that the French law is often ignored or unknown, thus making them into an interesting area of “lawlessness” in the world.

The lives of these people have finally been recorded thanks to the effects of a Frenchman form Paris called Gin. Gin spent five months in early 2 015 exploring the most remote corners of this area, which sits on the edge of the Amazon rainforest, with half its population of only 250,000 living in its capital, Cayenne.

“I have a special love for the French Guianese people. I have worked there on and off for almost ten years,” says Gin. “I’ve been able to keep firm friendships with them. Thus I have been allowed to gain access to their living environment. I don’t see it as a lawless land. But rather I see it as an area of freedom.”

“I wanted to show the audience a photographic record touching upon the uncivilized life,” continues Gin. “I prefer to work in black and white, which allows me to show different specific worlds more clearly.”

His black-and-white pictures present a world almost lost in time. These pictures show people seemingly pushed into a world that they were unprepared for. These local citizens now have to balance their traditional self-supporting hunting lifestyle with the lifestyle offered by the modern French Republic, which brings with it not only necessary state welfare, but also alcoholism, betrayal and even suicide.

does the author feel surprised about the indigenous people in French Guiana?

A. They seldom follow the French law.

B. They often ignore the Guianese law.

C. They are separated from the modern world.

D. They are both Guianese and French citizens.

introduced the special world of the indigenous Guianese as _________.

A. a tour guide B. a geographer

C. a film director D. a photographer

is Gin’s attitude towards the lives of the indigenous Guianese?

A. Cautious. B. Doubtful. C. Uninterested. D. Appreciative.

does the underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refer to?

A. The modern French lifestyle.

B. The self-supporting hunting.

C. The uncivilized world.

D. The French Republic.

I was in a terrible mood. Two of my friends had gone to the movies the night before and hadn’t invited me. I was in my room thinking of ways to make them sorry when my father came in. “Want to go for a ride, today, Beck? It’s a beautiful day.”

“No! Leave me alone!” Those were the last words I said to him that morning.

My friends called and invited me to go to the mall with them a few hours later. I forgot to be mad at them and when I came home to find a note on the table. My mother put it where I would be sure to see it. “Dad has had an accident. Please meet us at Highland Park Hospital”.

When I reached the hospital, my mother came out and told me my father’s injuries were extensive. “Your father told the driver to leave him alone and just call 911, thank God! If he had moved Daddy, there’s no telling what might have happened. A broken rib(肋骨)might have pierced(穿透)a lung...”

My mother may have said more, but I didn’t hear. I didn’t hear anything except those terrible words: Leave me alone. My dad said them to save himself from being hurt more. How much had I hurt him when I hurled those words at him earlie r in the day?

It was several days later that he was finally able to have a conversation. I held his hand gently, afraid of hu rting him.

“Daddy… I am so sorry…”

“It’s okay, sweetheart. I’ll be okay. ”

“No,” I said, “I mean about what I said to you that day. You know, that morning?”

My father could no more tell a lie than he could fly. He looked at me and said. “Sweetheart, I don’t remember anything about that day, not before, during or after the accident. But I remember kissing you goodnight the night before. ”He managed a weak smile.

My English teacher once told me that words have immeasurable power. They can hurt or they can heal. And we all have the power to choose our words. I intend to do that very carefully from now on.

28. The author was in bad mood that morning because _______.

A. he couldn’t drive to the mall with his friends.

B. his father had a terrible accident

C. his father didn’t allow him to go out with his friends

D. his friends hadn’t invited him to the cinema

A. Because he was rude to his father that morning.

B. Because he didn’t get along with his father.

C. Because he failed to come earlier after the accident.

D. Because he couldn’t look after his father in the hospital.

30. The reason why the author’s father said he forgot everything about that day is that _____

A. he had a poor memory B. he didn’t hear what his son said

C. he lost his memory after the accident D. he just wanted to comfort his son

lesson did Beck learn from the matter?

A. Don’t hurt others with rude words. B. Don’t treat your parents badly.

Most people agree that honesty is a good thing. But does Mother Nature agree? Animals can't talk, but can they lie in other ways? Can they lie with their bodies and behavior? Animal experts may not call it lying, but they do agree that many animals, from birds to chimpanzees, behave dishonestly to fool other animals. Why? Dishonesty often helps them survive.

Many kinds of birds are very successful at fooli ng other animals. For example, a bird called the plover sometimes pretends to be hurt in order to protect its young. When a predator(猎食动物)gets close to its nest, the plover leads the predator away from the nest. How? It pretends to have a broken wing. The predator follows the "hurt" adult, leaving the baby bir ds safe in the nest.

Another kind of bird, the scrub jay, buries its food so it always has something to eat. Scrub jays are also thieves. They watch where others bury their food and steal it. But clever scrub jays seem to know when a thief is watching them. So they go back later, unbury the food, and bury it again somewhere else.

Birds called cuckoos have found a way to have babies without doing much work. How? They don't make nests(鸟巢). Instead, they get into other birds' nests secretly. Then they lay their eggs and fly away. When the baby birds come out, their adoptive(收养的) parents feed them.

Chimpanzees, or chimps, can also be sneaky. After a fight, the losing chimp will give its hand to the other. When the winning chimp puts out its hand, too, the chimps are friendly again. But an animal expert once saw a losing chimp take the winner's hand and start fighting again.

Chimps are sneaky in other ways, too. When chimps find food that they love, such as bananas, it is natural for them to cry out. Then other chimps come running. But some clever chimps learn to cry very softly when they find food. That way, other chimps don't hear them, and they don't need to share their food.

As children, many of us learn the saying "You can't fool Mother Nature." But maybe you can't trust her, either.

32. A plover protects its young from a predator by______.

A. getting closer to its young B. driving away the adult predator

C. leaving its young in another nest D. pretending to be injured

33. By "Chimpanzees, or chimps, can also be sneaky" (paragraph 5), the author means______.

A. chimps are ready to attack others B. chimps are sometimes dishonest

C. chimps are jealous of the winners D. chimps can be selfish too

34. Which of the following is true according to the passage?

A. Cuckoos fool their adoptive parents by making no nests.

B. The losing chimp won the fight by taking the winner's hand.

C. Some chimps lower their cry to keep food away from others.

D. Some clever scrub jays often steal their food back.

35. Which of the following might be the best title of the passage?

A. Do animals lie? B. Does Mother Nature fool animals?

C. How do animals learn to lie? D. How does honesty help animals survive?

第二节 (共5小题; 每小题2分, 满分10 分)

根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

The ancient Chinese game Go is considered one of the most complicated strategy ing the game was seen as a test of human creativity. That is, until a machine found a way to do it better. AlphaGo, an artificial intelligence (AI) machine built by Google, won its first match against South Korean Lee Sedol on March 9. Still digesting his loss, Lee said during the post-game press conference, “ 36 ”

But that was just the beginning. In the following week, AlphaGo outperformed Lee in another three matches. 37

Some people have been arguing that AI is harmful to the human race. 38 Similarly, UK scientist Stephen Hawking once warned that the “development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race”.

So are we really on the verge(边缘)of living in the world shown in the Terminator(终结者)sci-fimovies? “Not quite,” answered The Economist. After all, it’s hard to get computers to apply their knowledge to everyday situations. “ 39 ” Thomas Johnson said, founder of an AI toy company. “But for a robot, to walk up and down hills requires so many complicated decisions to be made in real time, and it’s really difficult to do.”

As The Economist put it: “We have a long way to go before AI’s abilities truly begin to approach the human brain, despite how powerful the technology can be when focusing on a single task.”

Meanwhile, John Mark off of The New York Times argued that researchers should build artificial intelligence that aims for “intelligence augmentation (增加)” (IA) in which computers make people more effective.

He wrote: “ 40 Since technology depends on the values of its creators, we can make choices using technology to improve the world.”

A. Many robots fell over like little kids learning to walk.

B. We take for granted things like balance and vision.

C. Eventually, our fate is in our own hands.

D. So what is next for AI and humanity?

E. That made the five-match score 4-1 in favor of AlphaGo.

F. In 2014, US businessman Elon Musk said at an MIT conference that developing the technology is calling up a “demon(魔鬼)”.

G. I am in shock; I admit that.

Were you the first or the last child in your family? Or were you a middle or an only child? Some people think 61 matters where you were born in your family. But there are different ideas about what birth order means. Some people say that oldest children, 62 are smart and strong-willed(意志坚强的), are very likely 63 (succeed). The reason 64 this is simple. Parents have a lot of time for their first child and give him or her a lot of attention. An only child will succeed for 65 same reason.

What happens to the 66 children in the family? Middle children don’t get so much attention, so they don’t feel that important. If a family has many children, the middle one sometimes gets lost in the crowd. The youngest child, 67 , often gets special treatment. Often this child grows up to be funny. But a recent study saw things quite 68 (difference). The study found that first children believed in family rules. They didn’t take many chances in 69 lives. They usually 70 (follow) orders. Attention, please! I’m going to give you a summary of today’s discussion about whether we would go online in our spare time.

Most students think they(we)can go online as much as possible in our spare time because we are free then. Through the Internet, they can gain plenty of the newest knowledge and the latest news at home and abroad. What’s more, network offers them(us)a convenient way to communicate with each other. The Internet makes their lives outside class colorful and various.

On the other hand, a few students partly agree to this idea. Going online is part of our daily life. They suggest a time limit. They’ve found that more students are playing computer games instead of studying their lessons. They’re few students who are often absent from school for days. Thank you.
