海峡两岸:台湾飞大陆直航航点增至54个

THE Chinese mainland has given permission for more flights between it and Taiwan, bolstering the island as a gateway to the mainland.

中国大陆已经批准与台湾之间开通更多的航班，支持这座小岛成为大陆的门户。

Taiwan's civil aviation authorities said yesterday that the mainland agreed to let 14 more cities fly direct regular or charter flights to Taiwan, up from the current 40 cities.

台湾民航当局昨日表示中国大陆同意在当前40个城市上再增加14个城市常规直航或包机直航到台湾。

This will allow Taiwan to have direct air links with more mainland cities than Hong Kong. Officials say Hong Kong has links to fewer than 45 mainland spots.

Taiwan has 558 weekly flights with the mainland, compared with about 800 by Hong Kong. The number of weekly flights between the mainland and Taiwan will increase to 616 starting March.

Air links between the mainland and Taiwan have grown in recent years along with closer trade and travel.
