Carl一面对前妻念念不忘，一面又继续着他自我隔离的人生态度：对一切说“不”。Peter因为Carl没有参加他的订婚派对找上门来，并警告他说，如果他继续这样下去，他将会孤独终老。Carl在Peter离去后做了个恶梦，惊醒之后发现了白天一个朋友塞给他的一本教人对生活说“Yes”的宣传册…………

Peter: Yeah. There it is. You know what, buddy? You missed my engagement party tonight.
Carl: Oh, no. Oh, shoot, you're kidding. That was tonight?
