纽约时报开设中文新闻网站

The New York Times has launched a Chinese-language news website aimed at China's massive online population.

The paper said in a statement the site, which went active Thursday, hopes to draw readers from China's "growing number of educated, affluent citizens."

China has an estimated 500 million Internet users, making it the world's largest online population.纽约时报开设了一个中文新闻网站，面向众多的中国网民。

纽约时报发表声明说，该报的中文新闻网站星期四开始运作，希望能够吸引“越来越多受过教育、生活富裕的中国公民”。

据估计，中国有五亿互联网用户，在世界上居于首位。
