ISLAMABAD: Pakistan turneddown a request from the Russian government to postpone the death sentence ofits citizen Akhlaque Ahmed who was hanged today in Faisalabad.

伊斯兰堡：巴基斯坦拒绝了俄罗斯政府要求延后其公民Akhlaque Ahmed死刑的要求，今天他在费萨尔巴德被执行绞刑。

"Russia repeatedlyapproached Pakistani authorities with a plea to reconsider the sentence forAkhlaque," said a statement issued on Sunday from the Russian embassy in Islamabad.

Russiasaid it had wanted the death sentence of Akhlaque Ahmedto be postponed on humanitarian grounds.

Akhlaque, who also had a citizenship of Pakistan, was sentenced to death in2005 by a military court for involvement in an attempt on the life of formerpresident Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf in 2003.

The Russian Embassy and Akhlaque's lawyers had been making efforts to postponethe death sentence.
