The robot’s corner was empty.
The ship was utterly silent. It lay in thick black space. Occasionally it rocked and swayed. Every instrument was dead, every vision screen was dead. They consulted the computer. It said:“I regret that I have been temporarily closed to all communication. Meanwhile, here is some light music.”
They turned off the light music.
They searched every corner of the ship in increasing bewilderment and alarm. Everywhere was dead and silent. Nowhere was there any trace of Zaphod or of Marvin.
One of the last areas they checked was the small bay in which the Nutri-Matic machine was located.
On the delivery plate of the Nutri-Matic Drink Synthesizer was a small tray, on which sat three bone china cups and saucers, a bone china jug of milk, a silver teapot full of the best tea Arthur had ever tasted, and a small printed note saying “Wait”.

机器人待的那个角落现在是空的。
飞船里一片死寂。它漂浮在漆黑的太空中，偶尔摇晃一下。所有的仪器都失灵了，所有的屏幕也都熄灭了。他们询问电脑。电脑回答说：“我很抱歉，刚才我被暂时地与所有交互系统隔离开了。不过，我这里倒是有些轻音乐。”
他们关掉了轻音乐。
他们找遍了飞船的每一个角落，变得越来越迷惑，越来越惊慌。每一处地方都死气沉沉，静谧无声。没有任何地方有任何赞福德或者马文的踪迹。
他们最后检查的区域之一，是安放自动营养机的小房间。
自动营养饮料合成机的输出口是一个小托盘，上面放着三套骨瓷杯子和碟子、一个盛着牛奶的骨瓷小罐，还有一个银制茶壶，里面盛满阿瑟所尝过的最好的茶，旁边有一张打印的小便笺，写着“稍等”。
