BEIJING - Nearly 70 percent of Chinese people are opposed to a proposal to increase the retirement age, as the country looks to improve its pension system, according to a survey on Friday.
北京消息，据周五公布的一份调查结果显示，近70%的中国民众反对延迟退休年龄的提案，目前中国正在讨论改进养老金制度。

increase the retirement age是延迟退休年龄；pension system是养老金制度。
人民网对中国11个城市的1062人进行了问卷调查，有68.6%的受访者反对延迟退休（against raising the retirement age）。其中，在外资企业（foreign-funded companies）工作的人士反对声最高（voice the fiercest opposition）。
另外，有73.5%的受访者表示支持弹性退休制（flexible retirement），即即政府规定一个退休年龄段区间，尊重员工的意愿（respect workers' wills），选择适合自己的退休时间，而9.3%的人则强烈反对（strongly opposed）这项政策。
调查显示，排在“养老金改革最应采取的措施（measures should be implemented in reforming the pension system）”前三位（top three）的分别是：实行弹性退休（adopt a flexible retirement mechanism）而非一刀切（a one-size-fits-all policy）、建立多支柱养老金体系（set up a multi-pronged system）以及缩小各种人群退休差距（narrow the gap of how much pension different groups of employees should receive）。
自2008年开始，北京在考虑延迟退休年龄，以解决（cope with）劳动力市场萎缩（shrinking workforce）及老龄化社会（aging society）的问题。
