The university covers an area of 230 hectares with 2 million square meters of floor space.“Qian Xuesen Library" standing in the center of the campus consists of the library of medicine and the library of finance and economics with 3 300 library has the collection of over 3. 8 million volumes and 9 256 kinds of periodicals.
学校占地230余公顷，校舍面积200万平方米。校园中心区耸立着的“钱学森图书馆”，并设立医学、财经两个分馆，阅览座位3 300席;图书馆藏书380余万余册，期刊9 256种。
Xi'an Jiaotong University has developed into a university that has the feature of science and engineering and covers 9 subjects such as science，engineering，medicine，economics，management，art and law. The university comprises 19 colleges and departments and 3 clinical teaching hospitals. It offers 75 undergraduate specialties，199 master's degree programs，114 Ph. D. degree programs. It has 20 state key disciplines，14 posts of“Cheungkong Scholars Program"，9 professional degree programs of engineering，clinical medicine，MBA and MPA and 18 postdoctorate research stations. In addition，it has 4 state key laboratories，4 state subject laboratories，2 state engineering research centers，7 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education，an engineering research center of the Ministry of Education and 2 key laboratories of the Ministry of Health.
西安交通大学是一所具有理工特色，涵盖理、工、医、经、管、文、法等9个学科门类的综合性大学。学校设有19个学院(部)和3个临床教学医院。全校有75个本科专业，199个学科(专业)有权授予硕士学位，114个学科(专业)有权授予博士学位。学校有国家重点学科20个，国家“长江学者计划”设岗学科14个。拥有工程硕士、临床医学硕士和MBA , MPA等9个专业学位点，有18个博士后流动站。学校有国家重点实验室4个，国家专业或专项实验室4个，国家工程研究中心2个，教育部重点实验室7个，教育部工程中心1个，卫生部省重点实验室2个。Xi'an Jiaotong University has the faculty staff of 5 600 and 2 100 full-time faculty members，including 470 Ph. D. supervisors，over 1 200 full and associate professors and over 430 talents with high academic titles. There are also 6 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences，11 academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering，11 members of the Subject Assessment Division of Degree Appraisal Committee of the State Council，34 members(director and vice director) of the Subject Division and Course Division of the National Teaching Guidance Committee for Higher Education，15 nationally accredited experts with outstanding contributions，560 recipients of special subsidies from the central government with their outstanding contributions to the country and 3 State Outstanding College Lecturers.
现有教职工5 600余人，专任教师2 100余人，其中博士生导师470余人，教授副教授1 200多人，其它各类高级专业人才430多人。有中国科学院院士6名，中国工程院院士11名，国务院学位委员会委员学科评议组成员I1名，全国专业教学指导委员会和课程教学指导委员会主任委员、副主任委员及委员34名，国家级有突出贡献专家15名，对国家做出突出贡献并享受政府特殊津贴的专家560余名。国家级教学名师3名。

历史变迁1896 The predecessor of Xi'an Jiaotong University-Nanyang Public University was founded in Shanghai.
1896年西安交通大学的前身南洋公学创建于上海。1912 It was renamed Shanghai Special Industrial School of Traffic Department.
1912年改称为交通部上海工业专门学校。1921 Jiaotong University was set up by merging Shanghai Special Industrial School，Tangshan Special Industrial School，Beiping Railway Management School and Beiping Post Telecommunication School
1921年上海工业专门学校、唐山工业专门学校、北方铁路管理学校和北方邮电学校合并组建交通大学。1956 The State Council decided to move Jiaotong University to Xi'an.
1956年国务院决定交通大学迁往西安。1959 It was officially renamed Xi'an Jiaotong University.
1959年学校正式更名为西安交通大学。2000 Xi'an Medical University，Shannxi Institute of Fnance and Economics and Xi'an Jiaotong University were merged and formed the new Xi'an Jiaotong University.
2000年西安医科大学、陕西财经学院与西安交通大学合并组建新的西安交通大学。
