1. needle

needle是缝衣服的针，穿针引线可以就是thread needle或者put thread through this needle。

另外，needle做动词表示惹恼，激怒；（尤指）不断地数落。

His mother was always needling him about getting a job.他母亲总是数落他，让他去找份工作。

3. partial

partial的本义是“不完全的，部分的“，如果你只喜欢某部分，说明你是“偏爱…的，喜欢…的“，也是“偏向一方的，偏袒的，偏心的“。

4. -proof

-proof这个后缀表示“防…的；抗…的“，比如：

a bullet-proof vest

防弹背心

frost-proof pots for the garden

花园里用的防冻花盆

recession是（经济）衰退期，那么recession-proof自然就是抵御经济衰退，不受影响咯。

5. on the rebound

rebound做动词和名词都是“弹回；反弹；跳回”，on the rebound的意思是（因失恋而）处于心灰意懒的状态。

Five months after Nick had left her, she married another man on the rebound.

尼克离开她5个月后，她心灰意冷地嫁给了另外一个男人。
