'The play may begin at any moment,' I said.
'It may have begun already,' Susan answered.
I hurried to the ticket office. 'May I have two tickets please?' I asked.
'I'm sorry, we've sold out,' the girl said.
'What a pity!' Susan exclaimed.
Just then, a man hurried to the ticket office.
'Can I return these two tickets?' he asked.
'Certainly,' the girl said.
I went back to the ticket office at once.
'Could I have those two tickets please?' I asked.
'Certainly,' the girl said, 'but they're for next Wednesday's performance. Do you still want them?'
'I might as well have them,' I said sadly.

play may begin at any moment.
may:可能发生，表不确定的猜测
at any moment：随时，马上
at the moment ＝now
at that moment＝just then 就在那时
2.I hurried to the ticket office.
hurry:此处为vi.
hurry to : 匆匆忙忙地去
hurry up:赶快，快点
be in a hurry:匆匆忙忙地 （此处hurry为n.）
've sold out.
这句话意指The tickets are sold out.
sold up:变卖（财产）
I return these two tickets?
a return ticket:一张往返票 (此处return为adj.往返的)
return to : 回来
return to China/Beijing 回到中国/北京
return to you 退回你
return money : 还钱 ＝pay back,repay
're for next Wednesday's performance.
此处they指代two tickets
注意介词for:表示一个具体的时间
6.I might as well have them.
此处them指代two tickets
might/may as well:不妨... ，还是...的好
might as well 语气上比may as well更委婉一些
注意：have 是最活跃的词, 可以指任何的意思.
have coffee : 喝咖啡
have ticket : 买票 (习惯用法)
I'll have/take sth. 我买...(一般不用 “buy” , 习惯用法)
第四部分 KEY STRUCTURES AND USAGE
助动词can和may的用法
都可用来表示请求，也可用于表示推测，表示可能性
Ex:
1)表请求的用法
May I have two tickets please?
Can I have a cup of coffee please?
Could you lend me some money?(语气上，could比can更委婉、更客气)
2)表推测，可能性的用法
The play may begin at any moment.
It may have begun already.
He might come but I'm not sure. （might比may语气上更委婉，更不确定些）
比较句意
This may not be true.（这也许不是真的）
This cannot be true.（这不可能是真的）
Such things may happen.（这样的事情也许会发生）
Such things can happen.（这样的事情是可能会发生的）
