     I had a letter from my sister yesterday. She lives in Nigeria. In her letter, she said that she would come to England next year. If she comes, she will get a surprise. We are now living in a beautiful new house in the country. Work on it had begun before my sister left. The house was completed five months ago. In my letter, I told her that she could stay with us. The house has many large rooms and there is a lovely garden. It is a very modern house, so it looks strange to some people. It must be the only modern house in the district.

     昨天我收到了姐姐的一封信, 她住在尼日利亚. 在信中她说她明年将到英国来. 如果她来了, 她会感到非常惊奇了. 我们现在住在乡间的一栋漂亮的新住宅里. 这栋房子在我姐姐离开之前就已动工了, 是在5个月以前竣工的. 我在信中告诉她, 她可以和我们住在一起. 这栋房子里有许多房间, 还有一个漂亮的花园. 它是一栋非常现代化的住宅, 因此在有些人看来很古怪. 它肯定是这个地区唯一的一栋现代化住宅. 

第三部分 LANGUAGE POINTS

1.I had a letter from my sister yesterday.
had:received

she comes, she will get a surprise.
主句中用一般将来时，条件状语从句用一般现在时来表达一般将来时

are now living in a beautiful new house in the country.
the country:the countryside 乡间

house was completed five months ago.
be completed:被完工(喜欢与建筑工程连用)
注意房屋完工不能用be finished
比较complete和finish
complete the building
finish/complete homework
finish/complete doing sth.某事做完了
complete(adj.) : 完全的, 完整的
《鲁迅全集》中的 “全集” 就用 “complete”

on it had begun before my sister left.
work on it:指the building of the house (盖房子)这件工作；以非人称词做主语，后未用被动语态，注意和中文的区别
work：工作，活;在这里是抽象的不可数名词，因此它前面不需要加冠词

6.I told her that she could stay with us.
stay: to remain as a guest or lodger 留下来做客
注意：stay为短期逗留，此处不用leave
stay with:固定搭配，表示“跟……暂住在一起”

must be the only modern house in the district.
must be:表肯定的推测
the only:唯一的（注意一定要加上定冠词the）
比较district,area,region
district:行政区域,一般指具某种特征的区域
area:包容范围最广
region:某个特定的地区,一般范围比较大

第四部分 KEY STRUCTURES AND USAGE

感官有关的动词，后直接跟adj.，这样的动词相当于一个连系动词
It is a very modern house, so it looks strange to some people.
He seems/looks angry.
She appeared sleepy.
It sounds good.
This room smells terrible.
Silk feels very soft.
This coffee tastes very strong.
