Slovenia became an independent country on June 25th, 1991 after Slovenia’s war of Independence, also known as the Ten-Day War claimed 76 lives. It was the first war in Europe since World War II. Slovenia represented a major part of the greater Yugoslavia. A political volcano for both the US and USSR, it was a hotspot of spying and backchannel diplomacy during the cold war era.
